Messy mama

I think I might just make this shawl for myself. It’s a great idea to respond to people who don’t like breastfeeding in public.

PUBLIC/OUTDOOR NURSING IN THE WINTER

violetandme:

The obvious solution would be to go indoors but if I can’t —

Or if I have heavy layers on — I doubt that I’ll be nursing in a blizzard!!!

What to do when baby wants food?

I wear low cut (modestly) shirts so that my boobs are easily accessible.

What kind of clothes are breast feeding appropriate in the winter months?

This weekend Beatrice and I traveled north for a wedding. I forgot my breast pump, which wasn’t a huge deal since B was by my side for all but the 6 hours I spent at the wedding. She sleeps for 6 hour stints where I don’t pump - no problem.

Apparently this WAS a problem because I’ve been dealing…

In America, sixty-five percent of all mothers breast feed their newborn babies. Of this sixty-five percent, 2/3’s of them stop after three to four months.

Breastfeeding for a year, for all newborns, would save the lives of one million babies, throughout the world, annually.

Bear in mind that…

THIS is MAGNIFICENT on so many levels!!! Especially if it deters the negative thoughts surrounding breast milk and nursing!!!

OMG! Let me be clear, I am ALL FOR breast feeding I am even ok w/ breast feeding in public as long as you make some arrangements to cover it up, and I only say cover it up b/c I know it makes a lot of ppl uncomfortable, I personally don’t care. I mean that’s why you got um, so… ANYWAY the idea of other ppl, including yourself, drinking breast milk besides the baby, now that I cannot handle. Those stories about families that all use breast milk on their cereal etc. totally mcnsast. Seriously I gagged about 4 times as I watched this during this episode of “Tia and Tamera” on the Style Channel.

The Imperfect Good Mother

A few weekends ago there were people from La Leche League in my neighborhood with a booth informing the patrons of the downtown area about the laws on breastfeeding. Apparently there had been several complaints about women who breastfeed in public and an innocent security guard who didn’t know what to do. A mother who was insulted by complaints about breastfeeding in public called La Leche League to set things straight.

I know that there are people against breastfeeding in public, but I was surprised by who was making the complaints. Mothers! Not dads or women without children, but mothers. Their reasoning for complaining was equally surprising. They claimed they didn’t want to explain to their kids what the other mother was doing.

Uh, what?! What is so hard about explaining breastfeeding? If a mother is not comfortable with something that is so natural and logic then what other things are they not going to explain to their children? Is that really the real complaint?

I was looking for new books for my E-reader and read a bit of a book called “Bad Mother” and there was the truth I hadn’t realized. Too many women are walking around this planet full of a sense of inadequacies whether real or imaged. Women beat themselves up all the time about not being a good enough mother. Seeing other mothers boldly do the thing that you didn’t have the courage to try is just one more reminder of what a “bad mother” they are. They project their self-dissappointment onto other mothers as if to say, “If I can’t be good enough then neither can you.” It’s almost like a forced initiation into the “bad mother” club.

No thanks. I don’t suffer from any sort of “bad mother” anything. I am fully aware that I am human and that humans are not perfect and that being a mother doesn’t equate to superpowers. I respect other people’s decisions regardless if I agree or not without complaint or dispute.

If you are uncomfortable with having to explain to your own children what breastfeeding is than don’t. Making a public complaint in front of your kids is bringing more attention to the matter than acceptance and respect. After all, breastfeeding in public is not illegal. In fact the government encourages it. Check out womenshealth.gov and see for yourself. Or join my club “The Imperfect Good Mother” and learn how empowering breastfeeding and high self-esteem is.

In a relationship, married or not… You should read this.

Marriage.

“When I got home that night as my wife served dinner, I held her hand and said, I’ve got something to tell you. She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt in her eyes.

Suddenly I didn’t know how to open my mouth. But I had to let her know what I was thinking. I want a divorce. I raised the topic calmly. She didn’t seem to be annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly, why?
